Fishing season started yesterday but apparently no one told the fish that. Today was a different story and the fish were on board, if you know what I mean. For you conservationist have no fear, I catch and release and I even give them a little pat on the back before I gently lower them (as opposed to throw them back) in the lake.
So to celebrate a successful day with the rod and reel* how about a Fria Cerveza Especial? I must admit I am always wary of wannabes and pretenders to iconic brews like Guinness and Corona. This Fria (cold in Spanish) Cerveza (beer in Spanish) claims to be Especial (you guessed it, special in Spanish) and is brewed with fresh lime zest**. So instead of sticking a lime slice into your brew this beer has already taken care of that, but not with lime juice, with the zest. My wariness continued to build as I poured this beer and saw next to no head, the thinnest sliver of white which disappeared as quickly as a free round of shooters at the Ports.
Well I’ll be Amster-damned, this turned out to be a good beer. Easy drinking, nice light malt flavour. Subtle lime in the background, just the right amount. Zest but not zesty. with a nice dry finish. It went down quickly. Definitely easy drinking and would be a go to on a hot summer day.
