Mining week continues, note to self: don’t agree to do a luncheon keynote speech the day after hosting a beer tasting.
I’m not Irish although my patron saint may well be St. Patrick. I am not as slim as I once was but I am slim as I will ever be, and through an intensive Beach Ball™ Training Program I may eventually get to be stout but I’m not there yet. But I am dry and that was good enough for me to pop the top on this Dry Irish Stout.
I recalled the name Midtown Brew but couldn’t find the review. My search was in the lurch*, I had to do a deep dive into the archive, and at long last I found a Midtown from the past. It turns out the whole crew sampled a Midtown brew, An Extra Special Ale was part of the fun, during COMDB AGM one**. So a few years later and a few beers later, it’s time to try out a Midtown stout. And that’s a wrap on this rap.
So how about this Irish stout. This brew pours clear, watery, pitch dark and reflective, with a slim next to nothing head. It has a traditional full roasted malt stout aroma. Nice easy drinking with full flavour and a smooth slight sweet on the finish. A touch of coffee and cocoa with the main event of roasted malt for a traditional stout flavour, that morphs into a lager like finish. It has a lager mouthfeel and reminds me in some ways of a dark lager. Very tasty.
