Morningstar in the Afternoon
The Decew Falls Brewing Co Historic Society is once again taking us on a visit to a local heritage site. We are visiting the mill that resides on and is powered by Decew Falls (the falls, not the brewery). Morningstar Mill is named after Wilson Morningstar, who operated the mill from 1883 to1933. *
As for this brew, they tell us it bears the name Morningstar because the Mill worked with nature to harness the power of the falls to grind the grain, and their brewmaster “taps into the same team spirit” to brew this beer. Bit of a stretch if I say so myself but if this beer as good as they say it is, I’ll buy it. Well, it is, and I did.
A full golden spectacle of a pour, gold I say! With a dusty white mill flour head. Malt bread aroma with no hops to speak of or not speak of for that matter. It has a very tasty malt bread body but with a fresh crisp thing happening throughout the body, as opposed to the finish like most ales. It does have a bit of a creamy mouthfeel to it. Not Nitro creamy or dreamy creamy but enough creamy to say it has something creamy going on. It is a cream ale after all.
A very well balanced full flavoured nicely textured easy drinking classic cream ale. Morningstar was the star of the evening last night.
