Morris APA is another offering from a small Prince Edward County Brewery, Gillingham. If you like good beer*, and you are in Prince Edward County, this is definitely a location to add to you itinerary. This is small batch brewing with focus and talent. This is an American Pale Ale – one of my favourite styles, and they’ve delivered a great tasting beer that isn’t overdone in any way. There is bitterness that you would expect from a Pale Ale, but with some added flavours that give this drink more complexity than most. I found it started with some citrus notes, orange or maybe pineapple, then the finish was slightly malty. The richness hinting at butterscotch even. Overall, a great, refreshing ale for the summer and I had to take some home to savour.
I’m not too sure where the name Morris came from – maybe it’s his recipe they used? But I say Morris better for this brew! If you want to try it out you’ll have to take a trip to the county or order online via their website. I recommend going there in person. The brewery is located in a vineyard in the county and it has been done up tastefully and with style – consistent with the way the beers are made. If you want the full affect have one outside on their patio on a sunny day. A delicious experience.
