Happy Valentine’s Day to one and all.

I hope your partner in crime until the end of time, is as marvellous as mine. What a rhyme, is that Hallmark on the line? *

That little rhyme segued into my Rorschach rant of the day. Why on God’s green earth, or what’s left of it, would you, a Canadian brewer, use the American spelling of “marvellous” for your beer? ** Have you bent the knee to your new overlord, Microsoft spellcheck? Maybe it’s a Rorschach test of the grammar variety, to see if we’re paying attention? What ever the reason, it rankled me.

As an afterthought an amber for Valentine’s would have been apropos because I love me an Amber. But I figured at least with this brew no matter how good or bad it is I can say it’s Marvelous. And I would still be one “L” short.

Now that I’ve got that out of my system, time to put this beer into my system. A very faded orange pour, looks like a soft grapefruit shade of yellow. A nice one finger froth. Citrus pour, citrus nose. The first taste is watery light OJ tangerine with a dank double dry kick then a surprisingly mild finish, and a slight double afterburner. I’m tempted to do a big swig but fully aware of the consequences. Big swig time! And the big swig is more of the same, just when you think this double is getting too dank it eases into a smooth finish. The citrus tropical juice is actually quite light for a double.

To be perfectly honest, it reminded me a bit of Truth Serum, another Rorschach double, although not as juicy. This one was consistent and balanced from first misspelled swig to last spellcheck rant.

*Editor’s Comment: No, it’s the Federal Bureau of Prose calling to revoke your poetic license.

**Editor’s Comment: Both spellings, marvelous and marvellous, are actually accepted on spell check. Marvelous is typically an American spelling of the word, where as England, Canada, Australia and many other British Empire countries use marvellous.
