Sawdust’s Brew Master visited Czechoslovakia many years ago and remembers the painted Easter eggs (Kraslice) that were everywhere. Those eggs inspired him to brew this Czech dark lager in honour of that memory. Quite the story. I can’t remember where I left my keys this morning so I don’t go looking for inspiration in a memory, or honouring one for that matter, but that’s just me and I am no Brew Master. But Sawdust’s Brew Master definitely is, as I will explain.
But perhaps I am a pour master because I was quite proud of this pour, looks very professional. Nice dark body with the perfect head. Krásné pivo*. This dark lager has the aroma of a light porter, very inviting. First swig was a joyous surprise. This brew is much more complex than your average dark lager. Coffee, chocolate and a touch of bitter on the finish, all mild and well balanced, very easy drinking. A porter lager? By the second swig the bitter was gone, leaving me with a full delicious porter flavoured lager. A crushable porter? This beer is even more beautiful than the Kraslice it honours. The work of a true master (brewer). Well done Sawdust.
