After a couple of armchair visits to Europe which included a super suds Bitburger, I find myself back in Germany, as we continue our 0 percent experiment. Paulaner, a world famous Munich brewer, has taken on the non-alcoholic brewing challenge with their Weissbier 0.0 wheat beer. Just like a bread sandwich, wheat without the meat.
Booze or no booze, if it tastes good I’m going to tell you. And if it doesn’t, well you can be sure I’m going to tell you too. This one doesn’t.
It started out OK, it looks like beer, but that is where any resemblance ended. My remaining senses, those being taste, smell and good sense, were all offended by this so-called beer. Time to tell you how I really feel.

Beef bone beer
A deep golden pour with a healthy foamy head that dissipated very quickly. Nice looking pour. An aroma of beef barley soup. Not kidding, through the barley it smelled like beef broth. I thought maybe it was a Busch Dog Brew, another non-alcoholic beef bone-based beverage not fit for man or beast. The taste was fizz sweet with an odd aftertaste. Malt body, not like a wheat beer more like an off lager. European grainy at times with hints of a beer in there somewhere but never ever nearly normal. I kept taking swigs hoping something like beer would show up but eventually I gave up. I’m usually a one and done guy, but not this one. I couldn’t finish it. *
I’m looking forward to a somewhat better experience in the near future with a Paulaner Lager, but as for this beer, let’s just say I took one for the team.
