From Farmer Steve’s Nova Scotian pilgrimage we move West to la Belle Province with a Belle Gueule Pilsner from Les Brasseurs RJ out of Montreal. Despite my passing knowledge of the French Language * I am contractually obliged to engage with the sometimes cryptic, always caustic, COMDB translation department. They tell us that the term “Belle Gueule“ translates to “beautiful face” in English.
Belle Gueule is the original lineup of brews from Les Brasseurs RJ and also their fancy pants brew pub/ beer garden/gastro terrace/nano brewery on the Mount Royal plateau, Aux Quartiers Belle Gueule. And to top it off there is the Belle Gueule version of the sky dome for an outdoor indoor experience above the hustle and bustle of the big city. **
Enough chitter chatter, let’s get at er. Time for this brew to face the music. To start things off, this pretty face is an oh so pretty pour too. Golden clear with foamy head, ideal and idyllic. The aroma is malt bread, no fruit or hops on the nose, The first quaff is full on malt with ale bitters and a touch of fruit. The fruit fades leaving strong malt with mild bitters. No typical pils crisp, this one is more like a good solid golden ale.
Whatever it is, it tastes great. More than just another pretty face, it’s a pretty pour, and pretty damn tasty too.
