If you thought Common Loon was a reference to our pain in the posterior Editor no one would blame you. But no, it’s a pale ale pint from the Kawartha Lakes village made famous in song, none other than that roll off your tongue town of Bobcaygeon. *
Ontario’s official bird turns up in a few brew reviews. ** Two Loons was so good, that we had a guest review for a Two Loons redux. And it turns out this isn’t our first Comon Loon either. Rebranded, re-canned, re-brewed and now re-reviewed.
A light to muted golden pour, the colour morphed a bit in front of my eyes and I-Phone. A harbinger of the brew to come perhaps? Perhaps. It has a juicy peachy aroma, it smells very tasty. The first taste is citrus stone fruit with a strong tea bag bitter dry finish. Different, there’s nothing common about this loon. The juice settles down a bit and goes into some grapefruit bitters. Less juice gives way to pine bitters now. Just when you thought the juice had left in a Bronco it’s back to face the music. *** More changes than Bowie, this one. It settles into mild juice with some middlin’ pine bitters.
Although this brew was here, there and everywhere at the same time, I did enjoy it.
