You are witnessing a defining moment at COMDB! The definition of an “odd bird” is a rather unusual, strange, eccentric, or peculiar person.
The name odd bird reminded me of the Jerzy Kosinski book “The Painted Bird” in which Kosinski tells us a story of a boy, while in the company of a professional bird catcher, who sees the man paint a bird several colors. Then he releases the bird to rejoin it’s flock but when the painted bird gets there, the flock see it as an intruder and attack the bird. That bird was “flocked” from day one!
However oddBird. (capitalization and punctuation and no space between words) is actually a restaurant in St. Catharines with their express storefront at the Lock Street Brewery. It also happens to be a Lock Street IPA.
So I’m flippin the odd bird into my IPA glass, resulting in a flock of fizzy foam. A golden hazy foam top heavy pour. A mild, and dare I say, odd aroma is hiding somewhere in the foam fest. First swig yields very mild fruit, not hoppy but very fizzy with slight bitters on the finish. I am hoping the fizz will fade. After a very short decant the fizz does settle a bit but never leaves the nest. Very mild flavour, almost not there. Some bitters were hiding in the bottom of the glass and they come out to play later.
This should be called a session IPA, lower ABV, very mild flavour, no zing. Not what I was expecting of hoping for but not bad, just not great. Odd maybe?
