Another visit to Fenelon Falls, home to Fenelon Falls and ….. and… let me think. Oh yea Fenelon Falls Brewing too. FFB says they are committed to “delivering one-of-a-kind experiences”. I remember going deep sea fishing once and we were all greener around the gills then the paltry little tuna I caught. That one of a kind was one and done. Checked off and chucked off the bucket list. So will this be one that we will want to do over, or have a do over? Time and tasting will tell.
A rusty red clear pour, like looking through rose coloured glasses or blood shot eyes, the jury is still out on that one. Next to no head on this ale of red. An odd malt citrus aroma combo, concerning and disconcerting, in fact downright disagreeable. First taste the watery mouthfeel really stands out, and light malt with a slight citrus finish, a different, dare I say one of a kind, red. Very light malt caramel with a touch of citrus fruit, no real crisp. Might need a clothes pin on the nose to finish it.
It is very light and refreshing for a red, I will give it that. Medium quaffs recommended, the big swig test yielded a plethora of tastes which was a bit off putting. Not enough of something or too much of something else, not quite sure which, but the malt caramel citrus combo doesn’t work for me. A West Coast Red with a little bit of everything in it. It’s different to me and I’m indifferent to it. Kudos to FFB for trying something different, a West Coast Red is a daring combo. I could see someone really enjoying this brew, but it is a one of a kind and done experience for me.
