Upon returning from Kamloops I said to the Department of Morality “I picked up a few locals while I was there”. This resulted in a minor misunderstanding and what we who have been married for many decades know as a Cool Hand Luke moment.* Not to worry, that got sorted out, or perhaps more accurately, I got sorted out.

A Great Place to Pickup a Few Locals
The name Red Collar Brewery reminded me of the trailer we had parked behind the Red Dog Inn back in the Hemlo gold rush days. I stopped in for “a few locals” and the enthusiastic young bartender recommended this special beer and told me that it was their one thousandth beer, aptly named The One Thousand. A brew they were counting on, and so was I. I thought about waiting for it to be the COMDB 1,000th review, but only Job has that kind of patience** so it’s our 770th.
This inland west coaster pours darker than some IPAs that are lighter and clearer than some IPA’s that are hazier. A mild aroma of tropical juice. A high IBU, looks like it’s hoppy hour. The taste is juice and hoppy bitters together rather than in sequence, with some malt backbone for substance. The result is quite a tasty and refreshing IPA. A Jenga championship balancing act going on here, impressive. I like it! As stalwart sips give way to big swigs the bitters relax a bit, but it is still a nice tropical fruit hoppy quencher from start to finish.
That bartender’s words rang true, The One Thousand is one special brew.
