Good ol’ Gordie Lightfoot haled from Quayle’s country but he had mixed feelings about Sundown when he sang “Sometimes I think it’s a shame, When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain”. * In his younger days he definitely wasn’t a one and done guy but he was so good with the words that he impressed Dylan when even the Beatles couldn’t. **

Perhaps this brew is a Quayle’s tribute to hometown boy Lightfoot? Perhaps. But in a stroke of lyrical genius that GL may have appreciated, these barn raisers from Orillia have coined the name “Sunset Lager” for what I see as an amber. Nicely done.

This one pours an ombre timbre, a sunset golden amber with a full of head of steam. Aptly named. A light fresh hoppy caramel aroma, interesting. First taste is caramel malt with a slightly hoppy bite and a caramel aftertaste. As it evolves the lager caramel sweet stays as the backend bite backs off a bit but unlike Elivis, it never leaves the building. The traditional caramel amber coupled with a touch of hoppy citrus is a nice twist.

Here’s a marketing slogan for Quayle’s “Everyone should enjoy at least one Sundown a Day”.  

Bob Dylan once said of Lightfoot “Every time I hear a song of his, it’s like I wish it would last forever”. I felt the same way about this beer.
