Back on the farm for some MacKinnon malt and some home-grown hops. Yep, it’s another MacKinnon Brothers special, this time a Philly light. We enjoyed their bread baking beer sipping Nanna’s namesake, Philomena Pilsner. Could this be another reference to Grandma Philly?
This pours a harvest gold with a light white head. A nice malty aroma. Is that a hint of a touch of sweet caramel I detect? One can hope.
First swig is a creamy full flavoured malt, with a touch of fizz, and a caramel sweet. It has a mild amberesence to go with its minimal effervescence. And we all know that I love me an amber. Very tasty with a super smooth finish. Flavour above and beyond the line of duty for a typical light. Extremely swiggable, as in minimum bitters, maximum drinkability.
A Philly cheese steak is a taste treat but this Philly takes the cake. Hard to believe it’s only 3.8%, it’s a great beer let alone a great light.
