Hopster

The hopster on the can seems to be a bit of a hop head. I always thought the term hop head referred to a drug addict, but put into context a more modern definition could also be a beer enthusiast. Let’s stick with the later definition for this review.

A nice golden slightly hazy pour with a practically perfect bright white head. A strong piney aroma, I wouldn’t be surprised to find a pinecone at the bottom of the glass. A nice first swig of fruit and pine, not too hoppy, a mild finish reminiscent of a West Coast IPA. Very nice.  It evolves into a bit of a friskier, feistier finish further along into the glass but never overpowers the brew. That pinecone shows itself every now and then. If I didn’t see 6.8% on the can I never would have known this is a strong IPA. It is a mellow smooth and refreshing craft beer. In a sports vernacular, even though this beer is a Bench player, it is a starter in my books.

*Editor’s Comment: A play on the term “Hipster”, which was first was coined in the early 1940s to describe jazz musicians and fans, from the jazz slang term hep, or "up to date." In the 1960s, hipster mainly referred to low-slung, hip-hugging pants. The term has evolved into the 1990s to describe young and educated bohemian types.
