Old Robbie Burns told us that the best laid plans of Cranky Old Men often go awry. * For example, let’s take this year’s Muskoka Oktoberfest gathering of the COM. A battle of the Festbiers was in the offing for a quaffing with an impressive lineup of Oktoberfest themed brewksies chilling for swilling. However, a palette cleanser followed by a visit to Clear Lake and Plan A became Plan B and any plans for that evening, and the next day, took up subsequent letters of their own. Clear Lake did Oktoberfest like the champs they are with food and drink that left us all a little less cranky.
Earlier in the evening I was a man with a plan. Next thing I knew I found myself sucking on a Sasquatch Schnitzel. That doesn’t sound good does it. Rephrase. How about, I had a Sasquatch Schnitzel in my hand and a big smile on my face. No? Well, I’m sure the Editor will clean this paragraph up for me. **
Kichesippi tell us their Vienna Style Lager is ideal for pairing with schnitzel, sausage and spuds. That sure sounds like Oktoberfesting to me, so I managed to get a sampling in before the deluge.
Vienna is typically an amber style but this brew pours a blonde and very clear beer. Head and shoulders on this one. An aroma of malt with mild hops. The first taste is mild malt with a hoppy crisp finish. The crisp finish mellowed and the lager malt sweet took over with just a hint of caramel in the mix. A smooth mellow malt Oktoberfester. A schnitzel suds sampling to kick off this year’s cottage country Oktoberfest.
