Another visit to Waterloo and their mysterious wild boar. I wonder if the CEO of Waterloo Brewing is Chairman of the Boar?
What am I doing drinking a strong amber in the middle of summer? I enjoy a good amber and I liked Waterloo’s dark lager so when I saw their amber I had to give it a try. I poured a boar while watching the last game of the hockey season. It is some relief that I won’t have to cheer for the Habs in the foreseeable future, hopefully never again! Hockey in July, in Tampa its 32 degrees today. That’s not ice hockey weather, that’s air hockey in an air-conditioned bar weather.
Nice pour, good looking brew. A nice Boar’s head so to speak. More golden than amber, which surprised me, for some reason I associated the strong beer with a darker amber. But we all know you don’t judge a bock by its cover.
Great flavour, easy drinking for a strong amber, not as aggressive as I thought it would be. The boar still had its tusks but they were filed down a bit. I really enjoyed this amber, smooth but not too smooth, good flavour but not overpowering. Waterloo seems to be able to get the balance right, whether it is their dark boar or their amber boar.
