Pouring Hard and Drinking Easy in Dublin Bay

Nitro Dublin Bay Stout

Something in the Water Brewing Co.

4% Alcohol

Dublin Bay is the home of Guinness, the pride of Ireland and for many years an iconic Irish company, now owned by a British International beverage giant.* I am a Guinness fan and this Something in the Water nitro pays homage to original home of the famous stout.

As far as Dublin Bay goes, over the years there have been many things in the water there, ranging from sand banks and rocky outcrops that contributed to the many shipwrecks the bay has hosted.  In modern times the something in the water in Dublin Bay has been pollution.**

Not quite as curious as our last SITW stout sampling, their Pancake Bay Sweet Brunch Stout, but the name Dublin Bay invites the inevitable comparison with Guinness. In traditional nitro fashion I shook easy, poured hard and ended up with a beauty pour.

It has a nice malt cocoa aroma, creamy and mild on the nose. The taste is a roast malt with a touch of bitter leading into a creamy cocoa finish. Not quite as creamy as a Guiness with a bit more cocoa.  My traditional pairing of a cashew nut mix was replaced by meddling grandkids with a trail mix including raisins and smarties. Luckily it went along quite nicely with this cocoa full flavoured creamy dream of a stout.

Pouring hard but drinking easy with this mild tasty stout. Well done SITW.

*Editor’s Comment: Guinness Brewery was founded in 1759 by Arthur Guinness and based in Dublin. In 1997 it merged with Grand Metropolitan to create the international beverage company Diageo, based out of London, England.

**Editor’s Comment: Due to its unique ecological habitat and biodiversity, Dublin Bay has been designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
