From the rocky shores of the East coast to the verdant green of the West, I find myself on the cosmo coast of Vancouver. Talk about green, some of these buildings even have grass on the roof, good thing it’s legal to sell it now. A sun shiny stroll down the promenade past the conventioners and the cruise ships finds me on the outskirts of Gastown at the iconic Steam Works Brew House.
A great selection of steamed brewed brews from which to choose, but I do love me an amber, and a Copper Roof sounds about as amber as it gets.* I find myself raising the roof to toast the coast.
A copper penny pour, as clear as the day is long. There is a light caramel aroma wafting from those copper roof rafters. It has a full caramel flavour and a bit of a fizz to it, first swig is sweet as candy. A mild bite and a dry flat thirst inducing rather than reducing finish. Sweeter than most brews but it is balanced with the malt, add some mild hops in the mix and you have a tasty and unique amber.
Fast and friendly service. tasty meal, old school pub atmosphere, an ocean view of a freighter or two and a great brew too. Not my first visit to the Steam Works and it won’t be my last.
