Chilly Tins

Nickel Brook Brewery

4.5% Alcohol

Pulling a Chilly Tins out of the chilly bin* for a nighttime armchair trip to New Zealand via Burlington. Following a growing brewer love affair with New Zealand hops, Nickel Brook has three different ones stuffed into this crafty kiwi crusher. Will this be a South Pacific paradise survivor or will this brew get voted off the island. Time for a quaff off.

Out of my hard-working beer fridge, this brew is chilly for sure. A lemon, not melon** hazy yellow juicer of a pour, thick as thieves*** and out to steal my heart. A tropical juicy aroma and definitely some hops in waiting.  It has a watery mouthfeel and light tropical fruit with some pine bitters. Crushability confirmed, it’s very light and easy drinking. Mild hop bitters in the end zone. Is that Guava? Some type of funky fruit in the mix now, not bad but a bit at odds with the rest of the participants. Keep it chilly, as it warms the fruit fades and folds like a pair of deuces. Easy drinking light session like IPA.

*Editor’s Comment: Apparently in New Zealand a “chilly bin” is slang for a cooler for your drinks.

**Editor’s Comment: Anagram noted.

***Editor’s Comment: The phrase “thick as thieves”, which means to be allied and complicit with one another, is actually a translation of a French idiom which in English means “like thieves at a fair.” It comes from the Latin saying “Intelligunt se mutuo, ut fures in nundinis” which in English means “A thief knows a thief, as a wolf knows a wolf.”
