Ring and Post Toast

Ring & Post

Henderson Brewing Co.

6% Alcohol

My first thought was ring and post was a modern-day wedding engagement announcement. Beyoncé tells us there is no bootylicious until you put a ring on it.*  However, once again I have made an incorrect assumption and gone off on a bit of a tangent. It appears this ring and post has to do with cycling? Now I do fine at recycling, especially empties, but I am not much of a cycler. But back in the day I thought my banana seat high handlebar 3 speed was a pretty sweet ride!

Apparently Jack Layton ** was instrumental in Toronto’s ring and post bike parking program. Did you know that there is “take your bike to work” day. Probably about as popular as take your kid to work day.  I think I am going to propose a “Sick of All These Special Days Day.” Maybe it should be a month long for all these special months too.

Here’s another pet peeve while I’m at it, and I am not talking about our butt dragging buffalo breathed ankle humper. How about these sports announcers who live and die by the cliche. Last night in an on-ice capital affair Ottawa is ahead of Washington 6 to 1 with 55 seconds left and the announcer says “If Ottawa can hold on for the win…. “  Lots of digressing today. Back to the brew review.

Is this ring and post the toast with the most? A Henderson boast or a Cranky Old Man roast. Time to pour and score. A bright orange and hazy pour, thick as a post with a thin ring of froth topside. Certainly tropical citrus juicy in the aroma department. First quaff is tropical juicy with a nice soft mouthfeel and a grapefruit bitter finish time. The juicy body and grapefruit finish stayed the course. Five-letter acronyms be damned, this is a nice well balanced NEIPA.

Not Henderson’s best which is of course Henderson’s Best, but it’s one of Henderson’s best, I would guess.

*Editor’s Comment: “Bootylicious” was a 2001 number one hit by Destiny’s Child, co-written by Beyoncé borrowing riffs from Stevie Nick’s “Edge of Seventeen”. The term “bootylicious” was a Snoop Dogg lyric in Dr. Dre’s song “Dre Day”. Beyoncé’s 2008 hit “Single Ladies” encouraged suitors to “put a ring on it”. Jayz Z did just that, a $5 million dollar ring to be precise.

*Editor’s Comment: On their 1986 hit single “Keep your Hands to Yourself” The Georgia Satellites were told there was “no hug-ee no kiss-ee until I get a weddin' ring.”

**Editor’s Comment: Jack Layton was a Toronto politician who eventually went on to Federal politics as Leader of the NDP Party.
