Sanctuary Lager

Tomorrow Brew Co.

5% Alcohol

The Hollies had to fall in love to find some, The Cult found someone selling some, and Peter Wolf self medicated to get some. * It seems like they all made things far more complicated than they had to be, I found my Sanctuary at the local Beer Store!

Tomorrow Brewing, their old name Old Tomorrow, offers Sanctuary Lager as part of their Brew Aid series. What deserving charity is benefiting from this brew you may ask? None other than the The Ass Menagerie.  Coincidentally when we started COMDB one of the options for a name was The Ass Menagerie, but our legal department felt we’d be sued by the estate of Tennessee Williams. ** Although both our organizations are non profit, theirs’s as a charity, ours through mismanagement, the Ass Menagerie Sanctuary is a far more deserving of support than COMDB. Their focus is on helping animals in need, our focus is on free beer for cranky old men indeed.

I always hear about free beer tomorrow, perhaps a potential marketing campaign for our brewer du jour? But even though Annie tells us tomorrow is only a day away, I couldn’t wait for Tomorrow to try this one. Golden and clear, slim trim head, looks like beer. Mild to middlin’ malt nose, smells like beer. It has a malty body with some mild lager sweet and a nice full mouthfeel. As JT would say, it’s a beer that tastes like beer. A smooth full flavoured lager, a big swig test winner, it’s one smooth customer. This is a solid craft lager.

*Editor’s Comment: The Hollies recorded their song Sanctuary in 1979 but it wasn’t released until 1988. The Cult’s 1985 hit single “She Sells Sanctuary” is from their Love album. The song Sanctuary written by Peter Wolf and Seth Justman was recorded by the J. Geils Band for their 1978 album of the same name, with a notable version on their 1982 live album Showtime.

**Editor’s Comment: The 1944 Tennessee Williams (Thomas Lanier Williams III) play The Glass Menagerie was his first successful play, with a number of notable plays to follow including A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Sweet Bird of Youth, and Night of the Iguana.
