Sawdust City is one our favourite brewers, so dinner and a brew at their brewery is always a treat. Some new and unique brews always seem to grace their menu, and once again I wasn’t disappointed. Unlike some bartenders, not only were the staff not shy, they were downright gregarious, and posed for a pic. It just happened to be the young lady’s one year work anniversary at Sawdust. Cheers and beers. This also happens to be our 25th Sawdust review. More cheers and more beers!
This brew is a collaboration between Sawdust and Indie Ale House, an experimental hop IPA they tell me and we have had the pleasure of sampling a few Indie brews too. They call this brew an “Indie 3X”, but just to be clear, it’s an adult beverage, not an adult movie.
I asked the bartender about the origins of the name “Crack a Window”. It appears the name derives from an experience they had on one of their trips down to Indie Ale House. I don’t think I need to elaborate, and I don’t think I will ask about beer name origins anymore. I am just glad I asked him after I had dinner.
This brew poured pale yellow (paler than the pic), almost a pale lemon like luster. As hazy as my high school memories. A nice fruit and zip aroma to it, reminiscent of a juicy IPA. First quaff is fizzy, a touch tangy with mild tropical fruit. Not a real kick or zip to it, just a user-friendly IPA. Papaya and mango they tell me and I have no reason to doubt them. Tropical fruit fizz with a slightly tart finish, some bitters in there too. Quite tasty.

Someone behind me is yelling at the bartender “more elbow, more elbow”. Consumer activism in action. No ¾ full glasses being poured on his watch!
As this brew warms the slight bitter remains but the fizz abates and the tropical fruit steps up to the bar to place its order. This is getting quite tasty.
Quick service, cheerful staff, great atmosphere. I had a “grinder” for dinner, a sandwich so big I think I sprained my jaw,* but it was delicious.
