Smooth Sail Summer Ale

Walkerville Brewery

3.9% Alcohol

JT is a no oars off-shore wind powered water on the water and beer on the pier serious sort of sailor. Me, if my 60 horse merc doesn’t fire up I’m fishing off the dock. Jimmy Buffet was a smooth singing son of a son of a sailor.* All of this sailing segue is for this Walkerville Smooth Sail Summer Ale, and we’re hoping for some smooth sailing super suds. A libation of the light persuasion, this summer pale ale may well be good for what ails.

Walkerville, as in Windsor, Detroit’s salty Southern little brother. That’s right, I said Southern. Windsor is Canada’s southernmost city. Most Americans think of Canada as Bob and Doug’s Great White North, but about 20% of the US population lives North of Windsor, including Detroit.

So just how smooth is this smooth sailing southern summer ale? Time for this sampling to set sail.

It pours pale ale golden with a bit of a peachy orange tinge to it. Any head to speak of was blown offshore never to be seen again. A very lean but not mean fruit aroma, slim citrus. The first taste is a light touch of fruit and an ever so subtle ale crisp, this beer screams subtle.  A nice light pale ale in the early swigs. As we head out to sea ** the fruit is MIA and this boat is taking on water. A watery body and some barely there bitters.  Going micro on me, super light.

Early going it was a nice light mix, but as it evolved it got watery light, a touch too light. Refreshing and easy drinking for sure. In summary it sure is summery.

*Editor’s Comment: Jimmy Buffet’s 1978 song “Son of a Son of a Sailor” rings true. Buffet’s grandfather was a steamship captain from Newfoundland and his father was a marine engineer and sailor.

**Editor’s Comment: Some would say you are always out to sea.
