Signaling a Left Turn

Left Turn

Cold Break Brewing Co.

4% Alcohol

Not all those who wander are lost but Bugs is.

Bugs knew he should have taken a left turn at Albuquerque.* Clyde seemed to be more adept at signaling right turns.** By the way, if you are one of those no signal Nellies or those late signal Larrys, smarten up, you’re pissing everyone off.

On a lighter note, it’s date night! Me and the missus made our way to Cold Break Brewery. I know, dinner out at a brewery could be considered a busman’s holiday for me.*** Our conversation included such deep ponderings as whether a light beer was actually lighter in weight than a normal beer and what type of beer would the slugs like more. When the waitress asked whether I would like something from the bar (a rhetorical question in my case) I signaled a Left Turn.

A mimosa glass as skinny as a 60’s fashion model. A pour as light as an epiphany with a halo head to match. Lotsa bubbles. Very light aroma, there’s beer in there somewhere. First taste is a nice mild malt, no hops or bitters or any other identifying features.  A bubbly pour but a smooth quaff, no fizz in the bizz. As the top was halfway to the bottom a slight floral aftertaste is what I was left with.

A refreshing draft lager, a left turn that was a just right light on date night.

*Editor’s Comment: The origins of the Bugs Bunny line “I knew I should have taken a left turn at Albuquerque” are from the fact that Route 66 intersects itself in the middle of downtown Albuquerque. At that point you would be standing on the corner of Route 66 and Route 66 making it quite easy to get turned around and head the wrong way. Of course that was back in the day when we didn’t have GPS.

**Editor’s Comment: The 1978 movie “Every Which Way But Loose” was quite a departure for Clint Eastwood from his spaghetti Westerns and heavy anti-heroes to a comic lead. In fact, many advised him not to take the role but the movie was a box office success and generated an equally successful sequel. He would instruct his side kick, Clyde the orangutang, to signal a right turn and Clyde would extend his arm and knock out whomever stood in his way.

***Editor’s Comment: A busman’s holiday refers to a holiday when someone engages in activity very close or similar to what they do at work.
