According to LoB, “in the heart of the forest the Spark House* stands alone”. I assume they are making reference to the unique nature of this red.
It poured deep dark red, not at all hazy or bubbly. A ribbon of a white head. An aroma that seemed to be malt forward with a bit of chocolate in the background, but overall not very agressive. First swig had a nice mouthfeel, ok flavour, a bit of a bitter aftertaste but it smoothed out. Any first swig bitters were gone by the second quaff. Good flavour, not overpowering, the presence of chocolate malt doesn’t create a strong chocolate taste but instead subtle notes and makes for a smooth ale. The smooth and easy drinking nature encouraged me to take big swigs and the next thing I knew I was out of the woods, and the red, and pining for another one.
Easy drinking red with a nice flavour to it. This red is the real thing.
