Make a lasting impact on the world! Drink a Coors.
I recently saw the ad campaign for Coors Banquet Lager “Start Your Legacy”. * Time for another COMDB defining moment. “A person’s legacy is the lasting impact, memory, or impression they leave on the world”. I thought that starting your legacy by quaffing a case of beer was perhaps a bit of a shoot far below the moon goal. “My legacy is drinking lots of Coors” isn’t something that most people would have engraved on their tombstone.
Enter new brewer Legacy Brewing Co. and their mission of “Crafting Flavorful Memories”. I wish they would use the Canadian spelling of “flavourful”, I doubt anyone wants their legacy to be bending the knee to American spellcheck. But I can see a master brewer striving for a legacy of brewing great beer, that’s an epitaph I can appreciate.
I was surprised that a new brewer’s first beer on the shelf would be a farmhouse ale. They always seemed to me to be a niche genre and not an everyday game day fridge stocker. It’s a type of beer I can appreciate but usually not a super suds in my books. Time to make a visit to the farm.
A golden ale for sure, a bit fizzy but headless. A tangy almost sour aroma !? Tis the Saison. The first taste is a saison thing happening with malt body and a mildly tangy funky citrus hop influence/confluence/ and a flat slightly dry finish and aftertaste. Complex indeed. The tang mellows a bit, but there is a consistent malt hop tang combo sequence going on.
A unique farm fresh brew that may be off putting to some, or maybe just confusing, but viva la difference I say. I enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to other offerings from this brewer.
