Greene King

Greene King is a British based brewer and more. As the country’s leading pub retailer and brewer they run over 2,700 pubs, restaurants and hotels across England, Wales and Scotland. This premium ale showed up on the local LCBO shelf so I thought I would give it a quaff.

A nice dark golden (not dark) pour with a bar draft head. It has a mild malt aroma. Is that a touch of caramel, you old smoothy.  As I was harbouring a powerful thirst last night I took a good size first swig. Great malt full flavour with a smooth finish. Not hoppy or bitter. It is an ale but could easily pass as a lager. A bit like a Brit brown but better (say that 5 times fast). Easy drinking and full flavour, a great combination and very well balanced.

Greene King describes the Abbot as a rich and malty premium ale. I wholeheartedly agree. Delicious.

Editor’s Comment: Greene King is UK based, but it is now Hong Kong owned. They were recently bought out by Hong Kong based CKA for £2.7billon. As Farmer Steve would say “Sounds like a profit making deal.”
