Singha, the golden lion.* Not to be confused with Sinha, the lion stout, or the  Golden Ale, or the golden ticket, or The Golden Child** for that matter. This golden lion is the original Thai beer, brewed since 1933, a pale lager that received Royal assent.

Did you see a pickup truck go by?

I sampled this regal lager during the hockey game. I watched a commercial for a pickup truck that climbed a shoulder deep snow covered slope of an avalanche warning mountain so steep that the Ibex goats fell off it. This truck not only makes it up the mountain but beats a helicopter to the top! I think I owned that same truck some years ago and it got stuck once in my driveway. Back to reality, that being this beer.

A clear clean golden Thai lion of a pour with a full bright white crown, this brew could be a beer model, beauty pour. A mild malt bread aroma with a touch of bitter & sweet. It tastes light and refreshing with a full traditional malt bread lager flavour and a smooth finish. It is easy drinking with a light mouthfeel. A crushable lager.  Very much a pilsner refresh. Pilsner or lager, whatever it is, it tastes great.

*Editor’s Comment: In Thailand the golden lion represents royalty, strength, and courage. However, the elephant is the national animal of Thailand and in 1998 the Thai government declared March 13 the annual National Thai Elephant Day. The elephant is considered sacred in Buddhism.

**Editor’s Comment: The Golden Child was a 1986 movie starring Eddie Murphy. Although it was a box office success it certainly got mixed reviews, including reviewer comments such as “have you ever met anyone who actually liked it”, or “a comedy without laughs.” Murphy himself was not thrilled with the picture, he said "No matter how I feel, for instance, about The Golden Child – which was a piece of shit – the movie made more than $100 million. So who am I to say it sucks?"
