When it comes to a collab between Sawdust City and Muddy York, that’s a big deal. Well, actually it’s a Bigger Deal. This bourbon barrel 9 month aged wee heavy weighs in at a hefty 9% and is a 4 year later follow up to our review of SC’s Big Deal Wee Heavy (Strong Scotch Ale).
The COMDB guide to saving money encourages us to avoid big deals, and definitely stay clear of bigger deals. In fact it seems to be saying we should avoid all deals. But curiosity (and thirst) got the better of me. Time to see if this Bigger Deal is a better deal or badder deal. *
A caramel-coloured craft, a tad thick, with a bit of a froth that I didn’t bother to blow off. A strong bourbon wine caramel aroma, it smells more heavy than wee.
The taste is strong malt bourbon caramel with a smooth finish. A toffee barley wine, complex, very strong but not boozy. We mellowed together by a fire that was originally in the fireplace but eventually became internalized. An interesting strong but drinkable scotch ale. I was pleasantly surprised that the finish was mild and smooth, not at all boozy like most over 8 percenter are prone to be. Don’t get me wrong it’s not a big swigger, it’s a sip and savour. To chug, badder; to sip and savour, gooder. I just added that sentence to provoke our petulant and pedantic Editor. *
A cold winter night by the fire after a day of downhill skiing brew-ski. Come to think of it, you could say all the cranky old men activities are downhill from here. Regardless, this brew is fireside sip and savour super suds. It looks like SC and MY have perfected the art of the Bigger Deal.
