The Beer Spa is clearly visible from space.
In the Muskokas and I was feeling a tad thirsty, a bit peckish. I was looking for something tasty, so a home cooked meal by Chef Roy-Ar-Dee was not on the table, figuratively or literally. The choice was clear, as in Clear Lake Brewery. A regular COM Oktoberfest stop, and home to the largest beer spa in the world, so large you can see it from space.* Time to dive in to their draft menu.
The left side of the menu posted a number of old familiars. The right side had some new comers, all inviting, but the one that caught my eye was an amber lager. You see, truth be told, I love me an amber.
And amber it was, a ruddy red caramel coloured tap. A fine looking pour if ever one was called one. A mild malt nose with the faintest hint of caramel, or was that my anticipation fueling and fooling my imagination? First quaff was a strong malt bitter body with a smooth caramel finish with a major bitter minor sweet aftertaste. An easy drinking watery mouthfeel, this amber has quite the body. The bitters are more than typical but work well and I got the feeling we would mellow together. I was correct. The bitters tail off a bit but not much and the caramel remains for a nice balanced amber marzen. A full flavoured amber with a bitters body and aftertaste. A nice sequence, well balanced.
A Clear Lake dinner with amber, just the romantic type of evening that would induce a COM to provide a super suds rating.
