Coteau-du Lac, just west of Montreal, and home of Brasserie du Bois Blanc. They pay tribute to the Montreal Citadelle, a former fortress built in 1690 to defend the city from the English, with a Citra hop based NEIPA called Citradelle. See what they did there? Clever. And the Citadel, that once rebuffed New Englanders, is now a New England IPA. See what I did there. Clever, eh.* They say this brew is a “bière agrumée, tropicale et juteuse”. Looks like it is time for the COMDB translation department to make a grande entrée. Here is what they came back with; Hillside of the lake, White Woods Brewery, the Citadel, citrus tropical and juicy beer, grand entrance. The COMDB translation department’s motto is “no words wasted, no sentence understood.”
Heads up, and up and up with this one, a birch bark bouffant on a Citadel hillside of a hazy OJ pour. A hoppy and juicy aroma promising a tropical holiday in the white woods of Quebec. Very juicy and a bit hoppy with some mild grapefruit bitters, citrus squared. It does have a nice balance. A bit fizzy, the bitters seem to be a bit more pronounced as it warms. Best served as cold as Eau-du-Lac in February.** A good, fairly high ABV NEIPA, strong enough to defend itself, a tres fort, although you don’t notice it, not after one anyway.
