Sneaky Weasel is advertised as “Now 30% Sneakier” which definitely caught my eye. * It has a golden clear pour with a full head of froth, impressive looking. It’s listed as a lager, but I found it has a bitterness to it that is closer to an ale. Refreshing and with a slight pine aroma it snuck into my stomach with beguiling ease. It is easy drinking with enough flavour to make you take notice without being overpowering at all. If you have been looking for something sneakier, this could be your answer.
The beer is made in Vancouver by Balderdash Brewing. The can says it’s brewed under license for Balderdash, which makes me think it isn’t actually brewed by Balderdash in Vancouver, but by someone else under a licensing agreement.** Could their claim that it is brewed by Balderdash be balderdash? How sneaky is that? Perhaps 30% sneakier? Perhaps. We might need to check with our resident marketing guru about the weaselly ways a craft beer might be marketed.
I might have to sneak a few more of these into my shopping cart next time.
* Editor’s Comment: Sneaky Weasel grabbed local headlines in 2020 when 66 cases of the beer were stolen (sneakily we assume) from a delivery truck in Kamloops BC. The beer is reasonably priced, some would say a steal. Since that time the beer has shown up for sale in a number of provinces across Canada.
