That fateful morning of June 22 1813 if Laura Secord had been wearing her Fitbit she would have scored 47,776 steps. * She walked from Queenston past Shipman’s Corners, on her way to Decew House to warn the British of the American invasion plans. The result, a British victory at the Battle of Beaver Dam and the rest is history. Actually, that first part about Laura Secord is history too.
This Decew Falls IPA pays tribute to Secord’s 32K trek “recognizing the courage, sense of duty, and sheer stamina of her actions” and history class never tasted so good.
A light to ruby golden pour, with a tenacious thick and foamy froth that just wouldn’t give up. A fresh hoppy foam inhibited (or enhanced?) aroma with an ever so subtle hint of fruit. First taste and the first thing noticed is a creamy mouthfeel, softer than most IPAs. It has a nice tropical fruit body with mild bitters. Well balanced with a slightly bitter aftertaste. This is the type of brew that gives IPAs a good name.
By the time I was done I was wishing I’d just begun. In the land of 1000 IPAs ** this one is a standout.
