My horse sense is limited to say the least. However, I have attended a few triple crown races. No, not in the colonies heaven forbid. The St Ledger Stakes in Doncaster, UK of course. * Ladies with big hats, gentlemen with ties and ascots. I found out that a longshot is defined as the horse I bet on, and it turns out the handicap was my lack of knowledge of horse racing. The fact that I came home a few pounds lighter had nothing to do with my calorie intake or exercise regime while across the pond.
I pick horses like a pick beers, I look for the funny names. If there was a horse called “Long Dark Voyage to Uranus” that’s where my money would be. If there was a horse named “Zane Lost His Avocado Bag” in the same race then I’d be betting the Exacta. Smooth segue into this Willibald brew if I say so myself. Here’s hoping this Exacta is Perfecta.**
And were off, with a hazy orange pour and a super citrus hoppy hazy IPA aroma. Right out of the gate it’s watery and not as juicy as I thought from the aroma. But still pretty juicy, with a bit of bitters that goes to a dry slightly fizzy finish around the first turn. Now the juice has kicked in with citrus mango tropical, minimal bitters now but maintaining that flat dry fizz finish in the flat. What started out as a wannabe IPA came through in the final stretch as a nice West Coast pils styling of pale ale.
This is an Exacta you can bet on.
