Painted Lake Peach Crisp

Tom Thomson, Canoe Lake, Algonquin Park 1916

Something in the Water is once again inviting us to drink curiously with Painted Lake, which they tell us is a tribute to the great Canadian artist Tom Thomson, the artistry, the tragedy and the mystery. * Canoe Lake in Algonquin Park was the subject of many of his paintings, but on July 8, 1917 it was the site of his demise. Death on a painted lake. How we go from this sad tale to this light and cheery brew is all part of the curious drinking process I guess. And there is something in the water for sure, as in a peach, or a basket of peaches, or a bushel. We’re talking peachy.

Full disclosure, during a visit to the SITW Kingston location I became a member of the Curious Club. Once I got home the following discussion ensued.

Me: I’m now an official member of the Curious Club.

Department of Morality: Sounds like a kinky strip joint. Were you out with Farmer Steve again?

Back to the craft at hand. Too peachy, peachy keen, or the pits? Time to sample this peach parfait of a pint.

A mist of a bright white head adorns a clear golden pour. A peach sour aroma, it does smell like those sour peach rings the grandkids won’t share. I guess I just got my own. The taste is very juicy just right peachy, and middlin’ sour tart with a slightly sour sweet aftertaste? I’m not quite sure how they do that but I’m glad they do, tastes great.

This is light refreshing and peachy keen. It has a bit of fizz, and a bit of tart, or is that the crisp?  This sour is very easy drinking and delicious.

Just the right mix of everything for a great summer something by the lake from Something in the Water.  Forget the champagne and orange juice, Mimosas are so 90’s. This is your new brunch crushable.

*Editor’s Comment: Around mid-day on July 8, 1917 Tom Thomson set out in his canoe on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Park to do some fishing. A few hours later his canoe showed up near the dock he left from but no sign of Thomson. A week later his body was found. An accident? He was an experienced canoeist and knew the lake very well, and the weather was not an issue. A suicide? Foul play? There are lots of theories, but one thing we know for sure, his legacy lives on in his art. In May 2015 Black Bear Lake in Algonquin Park was renamed Tom Thomson Lake.
