This Long Trek is Well Worth It

Long Trek

Port Rexton Brewing Co.

4.9% Alcohol

It sure is a long trek to Newfoundland but well worth it, as we can see from the COMDB brew tour of the rock. But the tour doesn’t have to end when we leave the island. As long as we have some NL brews in the ol’ beer fridge we can armchair tour the rock, no time change or air miles involved.

Another Port Rexton pint, this Long Trek is a Munich Helles, a pale German lager, and hopefully a Helles of a beer. There is only one way to find out (apart from reading this review) and that is to pour and score.

A clear light golden ship shape sea-side pour. This one is lighting up the night. With a head as thin as a pin. Malt fresh aroma, a floral touch perhaps? I’m not a flower power fan, in my opinion floral arrangements are best reserved for weddings and funerals. As I have said before, a petal is OK, a bouquet not so much. The first taste is a malt crisp refresher, light, with a very slight bitter finish and aftertaste. Crisp, crispy, crispier, crispiest! After a couple of sub-standard suds this one is hitting the proverbial spot, spot on. This could well be a big swigger, I’m tempted, but it’s so good I’m determined to make it last. The floral is subtle enough that even I, with a self-confessed dislike of floral,* am enjoying it. Crisp, light malt and subtle floral is the ticket. Great beer.

*Editor’s Comment: This floral fixation of your is concerning. Be careful, you may be labelled a flacist.

Reviewer’s Comment: Who’s making up words now. Rhetorical question, no question mark required.
