Mary is driving Perry around the bend.
Perry loved Mary. Yes, Perry wanted to marry Mary, but Mary didn’t want to marry Perry. And where did this tragic tale of unrequited love play out? In a play** at the corner of Perry and Mary Streets, which not coincidentally is the location of Old Flame Brewers and source of this Perry Loved Mary IPA. Perry may well have agreed with Roxy Music that Love is The Drug, or with Nazareth that Love Hurts. He may have even gone so far as to sing along with the J. Geils Band that Love Stinks.*** For some reason this seems like a fitting Valentine’s Day brew to me.
It also seems to make sense that an Old Flame would be talking about long lost love. As for me, apart from the wife for life, there’s nothing I love more than giving a good brewer’s brew a good review.
In our beer pic Perry has those far away eyes *** but Mary seems to be enamoured with this muted golden pour of an IPA. A beer after her own heart, and mine too as it turns out.
A juice malt hop mix on the nose, nice. First taste is a tropical juice body with a hoppy slightly bitter finish. Great balance and a very easy drinking IPA. The juice was not purree but A-OK, the hops were not over the top, and the mild bitters gave a spry dry finish.
Maybe Perry loved Mary, and Mary didn’t love Perry, but one thing I know for sure, I love this Perry Loved Mary IPA. It seems that love is in the beer!***
