Lake of Bays tell us that if we are a Day Dreamin’ fan (the beer or the activity) that this will be our next stop. A brew infused with T.Kettle and tropical fruit, it is supposed to be just our cup of tea in a tropical paradise. Of course I’m not a tea steeper and sipper, and I’m sitting by the fire and the only thing I am dreaming about tonight is the Jays beating the Angels, which they did. Is beating an angel sacrilege? Is putting tea in beer sacrilege. Is the overuse of the word sacrilege sacrilege? All these deep thoughts distract me as I sample this tea bag fruit basket of a brew.
A light pale golden pour which is paler than most pale ales. Some would say it pales by comparison. A slim trim at the brim seashell white head invites us to our tropical armchair travels, or travails, as the case may be. I guess we’re island hopping now and we ain’t talkin’ Manitoulin.
Aroma is tropical fruity to the extreme. No doubt about what this brew is. The taste is a tropical fruity peach full flavour, tasty, with malt and then a crisp flat finish. A pale ale in the later innings, with some tea as a closer. An interesting combination. First impression is this is summer suds for sure. I could see sunny day draining one dockside, crushing one at camp or swilling and grilling. Second impression is the far-out fruit is more fitting with an IPA with a hoppy finish. As a pale ale it has an odd, different finish a bit acerbic at times, maybe that’s the tea? Maybe it got too steeped and not stopped.
An over-the-top fruit body, with an under the bottom flat finish. An OK brew but probably won’t be my next stop for a while.
