Barley Days promises us a hoppy good time with their Brülesque Pale Ale, West Coast style. I must admit I am impressed by this Picton based brewery. I recently sampled and enjoyed their County Style Pilsner. With Brülesque they are batting two out of two for me so far.
A burnt golden pour, not amber but not far from it. A little bit hazy, a little bit bubbly, and a little bit of head. A fresh aroma with some fruit and hoppiness evident. A fresh nice flavour, some fruit at the start leading into a bit of hoppy bitter with a bitter and malt combo on the finish, very nice. Most of the tasting reminds you of a session IPA, but the finish has the malt teaming up, but not competing, with the hops and the bitters. The finish makes it more complex than a traditional Session IPA, not to mention the ABV which is above and beyond any session brew. Once again Barley Days has not indicated “Strong Beer” on their labelling, and you can’t tell from drinking it that it is a 6.3 percenter. Nice flavour, nice finish, easy drinking and refreshing.
