Chocolate Cherry Stout

A chocolate cherry Sunday. Yes, wild card Sunday and I had this special brew lined up to either celebrate of commiserate the Dallas game. Unfortunately, it was the later. The Cowboys saw more flags that game then a United Nations building tour guide.  So my choco cheery stout was there to drown my sorrows.

A nice thick pour, dark with a nice light tan head, bubbly.  Strong chocolate cherry aroma, strong aroma in general, you could tell this brew was full of flavour.

You know when you are taking some medicine, lets say cough syrup, and it is cherry flavoured so you think to yourself “well this will taste pretty good because I like cherries” then you take the medicine and realize that instead of the medicine tasting like cherries, the cherries taste like medicine. Well, first swig the chocolate was there but the cough syrup cherry taste was definitely in charge. CHERRY chocolate, get the idea. Cherries are supposed to be a garnish, not the main attraction. It was like a sundae in a way, the cherry was over the top.

The chocolate seemed just right so if this had some sense of cherry balance it would have been excellent. It did have that great stout mouthfeel. The cacao nibs were just right but the cherry purree was too much.  The cherry settled a bit but it was still dominant rather than supportive.

Not quite a cherry bomb, it was OK, but just like Dallas last night, I expected more.
