White Magic?

An IPA made of barley, hops, yeast, and water seems natural to me. Do lots of wheat and oats in the mix make it supernatural, or unnatural, or just another White IPA? A brew review is called for, naturally. But first a digression.

The word supernatural almost seems like an oxymoron to me. * The two words together don’t appear to be an apt description of phenomena that is beyond scientific explanation. As for this beer, it doesn’t bring to mind apparitions and wandering souls, so a call to ghostbusters may not be required. Time to bring out the Ouija board and watch this Lost Craft wobbly pop work its magic.

A wheat field full of wheat IPA sounds like a White IPA to me. With a thick hazy orange pour and a brilliant white head, it makes for an impressive presentation. A tropical juice and hops aroma. Nice. The taste is very juicy with minor hops and a touch of bitter. A full mouthfeel. It stays the course with major juice and minor grapefruit bitter plus a hint of floral on the finish. Not balanced but well sequenced, it has the right sense of imbalance to it.

More natural than super in my books, it is a nice easy drinking white IPA.

*Editor’s Comment: The word supernatural is an attributive noun since it can be both a noun and an adjective. The etymology of the word is from Medieval Latin and is the combination of “super” meaning “above, beyond or outside of” and “natura” meaning “nature”. Hence “supernatural” describes things that are above the laws of nature.
