Willy Loman had a dream, but eventually he found out that the American dream wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. The Boss wondered “is a dream a lie if it don’t come true, or is it something worse”. * Quite an ominous introduction to Counterpart’s Dream Pale Ale.

A hazy pour, some would say dreamy, with a creamy head. A juicy nose, pineapple mango or some other multi fruit concoction, a whole fruit salad, definitely juicy. The taste is a mango tangerine sweet puree with some hops providing the funk, very mild bitters and aftertaste. A fruit lover’s dream. Now a bit of fizz in the bizz, it’s getting busy. The juice is fading a bit the  fizz is here to stay. Where did my juice go? By the bottom of the glass it was fizz and mild funk, juice MIA.

This sampling was a tale of two brews. Super juicer at the start but the juice faded like Willy’s hopes and dreams, and finally his resolve. What was left was a rather flat fizzy mild malt funk, beery but not cheery. Not exactly the dream sequence I was hoping for.

*Editor’s Comment: Arthur Miller gave us his opinion of the American dream in his 1949 play “Death of a Salesman”. “The River” is a song by Bruce Springsteen from his 1980 album of the same name. “Working on a Dream” is the 2009 number 1 hit album by Bruce Springsteen, his 16th studio album.
