A new brewery (for me) is Radical Road Brewing based in Toronto. I had a chance to try one of their offerings – a tasty pale ale called Yuzu. It combines some flavour from the Yuzu fruit with a pale ale. It’s a winning combination. We’ve got a decent Pale Ale with added yuzu and it comes out to a refreshing hop forward, crisp flavour that is easy drinking. The colour matches the taste – bright and clean with a distinct hoppiness that is both refreshing and not overpowering.
The Yuzu is a small, round, citrus fruit native to East Asia. It has a tart flavour that compliments the Northwest hops in the ale. Don’t confuse Yuzu with Yuma – as in “3:10 to Yuma” which is a western flick with Russell Crowe. Although come to think of it, 3:10 to Yuzu could be a possible film – or maybe $3.10 for Yuzu which would be a fine price for this beer and worth every penny. Maybe I should make a suggestion to the fine folks at Radical Railroad that they charge $3.10 for this beer in case Russell Crowe is in town for the film awards gala. Although Russell Crowe can certainly afford to pay full price, so maybe not the best advice from a business venture perspective.
Yuzu or Yuma, I liked this beer. You can reach for it without hesitation for a smooth, hoppy pale Ale.
