It’s going to be a long night.
180 taps! And we aren’t talking about a Fred Astaire Gene Kelly movie.* We’re talking about Vegas, and the Yard House and enough craft beers to put a shiver down my liver. “The largest selection of craft beers on tap in the world!” It’s going to be a long night. But how to choose among so many brews? That’s why we have The COMDB Guide to Beer Tasting. The guide outlines the definitive approach for selecting suds to sample. “A beer with a funny name.” Zombie Duck Hunter seemed to fit the duck bill.
Tap number 132 please, the one with the gruesome flesh flayed tap handle, thank you. With all the glitz and bling and spectacle that Las Vegas has to offer, not to mention countless local breweries, you have to really stand out to be a standout. Enter Beer Zombies and their “craft to death” approach to brewing. When it comes to zombies I guess it’s craft to death and beyond?
Clear not hazy, ok maybe a little hazy or is that just me. A haze of a perfect pour, a midday Nevada sunshiny golden, with a desert bleached skull white head to top things off. The aroma is mild fruit and definitely some hops in there planning their imminent escape. The taste is mild fruit with lots of hoppiness, hop heavy, and a grapefruit bitter finish and aftertaste. Now that’s an IPA. Refreshing, hoppy with just the right amount of fruit. A bit of a punch to this, approaching a double at the end, a bit of a boozy bight on the finish at the finish. At first, I didn’t think it was balanced and I was. By the time I was done it was balanced and I wasn’t.
A full flavour take no prisoners and provide no apologies kind of IPA. What did you expect from a “craft to death” brewery. Well done Zombies.**
