Brock Street claims to be “the most refreshing street in Canada”, although Mill Street, William Street, Schooner Street, Lock Street and a number of other street named breweries may challenge that claim. Regardless of who is the refreshest, I am a Brock Street fan. I also happen to love me a nice juicy mango, who doesn’t? So, when I saw their Mango Tango brew I immediately thought of the same two things that anyone would. First was Ted Nungent’s song “Wango Tango”, and second was that I had to try a spin around the old dance floor with this Mango Tango.
Wow, this pours extra pulp hazy OJ thick and coloured with a creamy white head. Searching for a sniff of mango, I get a hops and citrus aroma. Anticipating a taste explosion of the juiciest tastiest mango this side of my beer fridge and what do I get? Grapefruit bitters, C’est tout. Ou est le manque? There is grapefruit tang but no mango tango. Bitters in abundance. The situation inspired a bit of poetry.
Everyone knows, it takes two to tango,
The grapefruit showed up, but where’s my mango?
Some mango did show up towards the end of the number, I guess some mango puree graced the bottom of my glass. This was a nice grapefruit IPA, refreshing to be sure. A little more mango would have been nice.
