A Back to Basics by the Bay Blonde

Baycation Blonde

Port Rexton Brewing Co.

5.2% Alcohol

Another trip to the far east. No, I’m not talking about the one with the Great Wall, I’m talking about the one with the great times. The far east of Canada that is, Port Rexton Newfoundland.* Back by the bay for a back to basics Baycation Blonde.  Robinhood Bay, by the way, and the Port Rexton brewers are brewing a beer for the boys that builds the boats by the bay bye and bye.

We have had the pleasure of sampling a few PR creations. We were Chasing Sun, and had a Golden one during Shoulder Season. All these fine brews achieved the vaunted, cherished and revered status of super suds. Now it’s time for a Baycation pour and score.

A bright golden slightly hazy pour, a minimal sea spray of a head. A fresh mild malt aroma, nothing fishy here. First taste is a bit surprising, a complex combo of malt, fruit, spices and hoppy bitters. An aggressive blonde. Immediately, as in second swig, the fruit fades and you are left with a malt, touch of flora and dry crisp bitters on the finish. Big swig exhibits more flora than I’m fond a. With normal swigs it settles into a basic blonde, refreshing by the seaside suds.

*Editor’s Comment: Port Rexton is a small harbour town on the East Coast of Newfoundland located on the North end of Robinhood Bay at Ship Cove and part of the Trinity Bight community.
