Time for another daily double but I wouldn’t bet on the Exacta this time around. Double is where the similarities end. From a Doppelbock Dunkel to a Double Dry Hopped IPA. Kloster Andechs is from a centuries old Bavarian monastery, while Fuerst Wiacek is 2016 founded and Berlin based. But they’re both from Germany, right? So how come on my beer can it says Fuerst Wiacek – Berlin, brewed in Niagara Falls Canada?  And the other difference will be the rating but we’ll get to that.

The pour was overshadowed, literally, by the head. A heaping helping of high head. It was over the top and didn’t want to stop. A solid pyramid of dense froth that had no intention of settling down. I was hoping the foam would subside “on the double”, but once my patience wore thin I went to work with a spoon to try to get to this brew.

A juice hops malt aroma with all of it in there trying to attain escape velocity to get past the foam. First Fuerst taste was juice hoppy bitters, nothing doubled up except the foam. Some malt enters the mix but it was still mainly tropical juice and mild hoppy bitters. The bitters moved to the front to get together with the juice, not its best look. It eventually settled into an average mild double, no real bark or bite. The only thing above average on this one was the head

Foam dome

I didn’t understand the name of the brewery,* the name of the beer, where it was brewed, or or the cause of the foam fest. This salad was all dressing.

*Editor’s Comment: The name Fuerst Wiacek is based on the names of the founders, Georg Fürst and Lukasz Wiacek.

Final Rating: A Double Foam Fest at 12 out of 20
