3 Rocks isn’t our first Second Wedge, but our fourth, and we’ve come to count on them for some 5 star brews. How’s that for a Sesame Street segue, thank goodness we didn’t get to 6…7.
But what’s in a name? In this case letters and a number. Could the name be in reference to a new musical group called 3? Our is it a celestial reference, earth being the third rock from the sun? Or a tribute to someone suffering from triorchidism? * All unlikely monikers and so the name remains a mystery, adding to the enigma and intrigue of this Second Wedge flagship IPA. **
A deep golden pour with a full foamy froth, an appealingly attractive and alliterative ale. It has a tropical juicy aroma which has attained escape velocity and is orbiting just above the clouds of foam. The first taste is citrus tropical juice and big-time pine bitters, a one two punch that hits the spot and all the right notes too. A nice full to middlin’ mouthfeel. The bitters settle down a bit but it’s still a pine bough slap to the face of a high IBU brew, which works well. The juice and pine bitters bookends are brisk, bold and balanced. Hoppy trails! And the foam head stays the course to make for a picture perfect pour as well. A great IPA.
*Editor’s Comment: Polyorchidism is a rare condition where males are born with more that two testicles. The most common condition is three testicles, known as triorchidism.
*Reviewer’s Comment: Maybe the cure is a Balls Falls beer from Bench?

Hoppy trails.
**Editor’s Comment: When it comes to our Reviewer, if there isn’t a Coles Notes version it doesn’t get read. On the can Second Wedge explains that the beer is named after 3 Rocks mountain biking trail near Uxbridge, a town North East of Toronto Canada where the brewer is based.
