It’s not Christmas or Easter, so what am I doing at church you may ask, and you would be well within your rights to do so. The missus wanted a chauffeur and bag man to drive there and make a donation to the cause so I was at the wheel and flush with cash. Happy wife, blessed life.
Not sure if the Editor* is rubbing off on me (that didn’t sound good) but I may be becoming a bit pedantic in my old age.
Minister: “The will of God is for us to do the will of God?”
Me: That sounds like a circular reference to me.
Department of Morality: Don’t question God’s will or he might leave you out of it.
As far as God’s will goes, I thought it was the meek that were in line for the biggest inheritance. I was at least smart enough to keep that thought to myself.
The preacher is a fine public speaker, good volume and pace and no uhms and ahs, although he did say Amen 47 times. I guess we all struggle with those pesky pause fillers. Something for him to work on.
The church was non-denominational which I think means any denomination is welcome. Even pedantists? Shouldn’t that be pro-denominational? When it comes to passing the plate all are accepted but they do prefer larger denominations.
Speaking of passing the plate, there were a couple of shady characters at the back of the church that I saw removing envelopes from the offering plate! In a house of worship no less. Damned thieves. When I brought this to the Pastor’s attention he told me they were Elders, although to be honest they didn’t look that old. But if it’s OK for seniors to pocket some of the funds that’s good to know for my next visit.
Speaking of my next visit, the Department of Morality may have hinted that next time she may be able to drive there herself and bring her purse. I think her exact words were “Next time I’m coming on my own.” My job will be to stay at home, walk the dog, and stay out of trouble. Although she did say that I seem to struggle with both those jobs as well. Amen to that.
*Editor’s Comment: Don’t bring me into this religious and sacrilegious rant.
*Reviewer’s Comment: As a newly bonafide pedantic I think it’s my duty to tell you that using religious and sacrilegious as adjectives for the same word is redundant and repetitive.
*Editor’s Comment: No comment.
*Reviewer’s Comment: “No comment” is a comment.
